New Mercy Novitiate Begun

1967: Ground was broken last week for the new novitiate of the Sisters of Mercy of the Cincinnati province on Grandview Avenue, adjacent to Our Lady of Cincinnati College and overlooking the Ohio River. John A. Burdick, architect wields the spade. With him are, from left, Bishop Edward A. McCarthy; Mother Mary Albert, Mother Provincial of the province; and Al Neyer, contractor. The new structure, which will accommodate 150 persons, will cost approximately $2,643,000 and will replace the present novitiate on Western Avenue (formerly Freeman Avenue) in Cincinnati. The building will have five floors on one side, where the ground is lower, and three on the other. Also taking part in the ceremonies were Lawrence S. Fitzgerald, chairman of the board of regents of the province, and John H. Rhude of the Sisters' central development staff, who was master of ceremonies. (The Catholic Telegraph, February 24, 1967)
