1979: “Work is expected to be completed by late April on a new church for Holy Rosary parish, St. Marys, according to Father Leo A. Hoying, pastor. Dedication, with Archbishop Joseph L. Bernardin officiating, has been set for June 24.“The new brick church will provide seating for 550 persons. Pews will be arranged in a semi-circle around the altar. Adjacent to this is an area that can be used for temporary seating or can be closed off for meeting space.
“A large basement has an expansive area to be used as a new school cafeteria or for large parish events. The basement also includes kitchen area, meeting and storage rooms.
“In the church there will be a spacious vestibule area that allows space for liturgical displays related to the seasons. The rooms for ushers and altar boys and the sacristy are near this vestibule. The arrangement makes it convenient for processions to the altar for Mass.
“Architect for the building project is Robert Holtmeyer, Cincinnati.
“The parish, founded in 1852, has approximately 750 families. The present church, to be demolished soon, dates from the Civil War period.” (See The Catholic Telegraph, March 16, 1979)
