The Post Office

1960: “The Post Office and how it operates is being learned by first graders at Holy Family School, Dayton, through specially designed instructional aids. Devised by Mrs. John Bowers, first grade teacher, and Miss Mary Seeger, student teacher from the University of Dayton, the ‘post office’ in the classroom helps the children learn not only about mailing procedures, stamps, parcel post, and what keeps the mailman busy, but also helps them with their arithmetic. By simulating the purchase of stamps and receiving change from the diminutive postal clerks, the children are getting acquainted with money and how to handle it. Models of the corner mailbox and the post office (shown here) are kept in the classroom and put to frequent use.” (The Catholic Telegraph-Register, March 25, 1960)
